MEET THE QUAIL RIDGE RESIDENTS

VIOLA LANDON

Before Viola Landon moved to Quail Ridge Assisted Living two years ago, she was living in her own home in Warr Acres where she had taught an exercise class at the Warr Acres Senior Center for fifteen years, Viola’s children looked around and found Quail Ridge Assisted Living and thought it would be just the right place for their mother. “At first, I naturally missed my home, but I wouldn’t move back now if I could, there’s no way I would go back and live by myself again. Why should I go back home when I can take the van, my food is cooked, the groceries are purchased, the laundry is done, the staff is friendly and helpful and the place is greatly improved under the new ownership. When I can’t go out to church, we have churches that come here. Life is good here, I’m happy.”

IRENE STEVENSON

Irene Stevenson’s eyes sparkle as she shares memories of marriage to her wonderful husband who was a paratrooper in World War II in the 101st battalion. He played a major role in the D Day invasion in Europe and was a highly decorated war hero. They moved from Kansas to Pryor, Oklahoma in 1954 and lived happily there until his death. After being lonely too long, Irene decided for herself that the thing to do was to move into an Assisted Living Community in Oklahoma City where she could be near her daughter, son-in-law, her grandson and his wife. “I made the decision to move to Quail Ridge on my own. This place is wonderful, the staff is great, the residents are very friendly, and I’ve never had a problem they couldn’t solve for me. I have friends who would be far better off to come here than continue at home alone and lonely. My recommendation is go where you have family. I’m so happy I made this decision on my own while still on my feet and could decide for myself. Now my family and I can enjoy each other and I don’t have to worry about becoming a burden on them.”

DON BRUNHOVER

If you ask Don Brunhover what life is like at Quail Ridge, his eyes light up and you get a wide smile. “I made up my mind to enjoy life to fullest for my remaining years and living here gives me the freedom and also the peace of mind of a secure environment. I like all the activities, the exercises, bingo, and all the rest. Life is so much more rewarding having friendly people around and yet still having a degree of independence. Sometimes I like to just get in the car and drive around for a while, and times when I really enjoy visiting with other residents. We all enjoy the entertainment that comes in, the thoughtful staff and the food.” Don also loves to read, loves people and is a joy to have around.
